Neighbors Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Neighbors Committee is to develop a mentoring system for independent Sunnyside residents that encourages an intentional caring community. This committee encourages established independent residents to connect with new residents by sharing community information and creating friendships in order to build that caring community.

Activities

The Neighbors Committee will be led by a coordinator and team who will develop a mentoring system for independent Sunnyside residents that encourages an intentional caring community.  They will identify volunteer-independent Sunnyside residents, pair them with new residents, and provide support to Sunnyside's new neighbors through visits, tours, advice and recommendations, along with quarterly meetings.

Meetings

Meetings of the Neighbors Committee and independent-resident volunteers will occur quarterly to share ideas on how to implement the program (Job Description).

Neighbor Job Description

  • Commit to be a Neighbor for one year to at least one new Sunnyside resident.
  • Meet with new residents four times per year to share community and Sunnyside information.
  • Be a guide to Sunnyside staff resources.
  • If required, encourage new residents to share emotional challenges with the chaplains, the Resident Living Director, or Clinic Director.
