Meet Stan Gray

Originally from Florida, Stan has made many moves on his way to Sunnyside. Following two years of service in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he attended Georgia Tech studying Chemical Engineering. This equipped him to work with Dupont in eight of their East Coast facilities, then in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, for three years prior to retirement 35 years ago.

Stan and his late wife raised four children while moving with Dupont. They now live in Tennessee, South Carolina, Crozet, and Harrisonburg. Most recently he had lived in a cottage next to his daughter in Crozet. While there he became interested in flowers, especially those that deer don’t eat. Now his daughter has those flowers to tend to in her retirement, and he may adopt one of the raised beds to see what grows on this side of the Blue Ridge!

After visiting four retirement homes, Stan said it took about an hour to decide that Sunnyside was the right place for him. Now that he has been here a few weeks he has no regrets. Finding new people and interesting things to explore is easy. He is already working with the Veterans group in the woodworking shop preparing to build doll cradles and maybe bluebird houses. Wouldn’t a bluebird trail be nice on that newly acquired land Sunnyside has purchased? --Mary Rouse
