Great Courses

Great Courses DVDs in Eiland Center Library

The Eiland Center Library has received a generous donation of a selection of The Great Courses DVDs from John and Mary Noffsinger. For those of you not familiar with them, The Great Courses offer an immersive learning experience which is uniquely crafted for lifelong learners. They provide an alternative to JMU Life Long Learning classes and offer the additional benefit of letting you select your own time and schedule for completing a course. Choose a topic that you are interested in and can study on your own and at your own pace - or form a small group and view the courses together. These Great Courses work with some of the very best educators in collaboration with a team of experts to provide a customized and comprehensive educational experience.

The courses available are:

  • The Medieval World; Classical Archaeology of Ancient Greece and Rome;
  • The Story of Medieval England: From King Arthur to the Tudor Conquest;
  • The Rise and Fall of the British Empire;
  • A History of Hitler’s Empire;
  • Masterpieces of Ancient Greek Literature;
  • Sensation, Perception, and the Aging Process;
  • Understanding the Mysteries of Human Behavior;
  • Being Human: Life Lessons from the Frontiers of Science;
  • Practicing Mindfulness: An Introduction to Meditation;
  • Cultural Literacy for Religion: Everything the Well-Educated Person Should Know; and
  • Why Evil Exists.

These courses will be on our shelves and ready for check out in November. They will be located adjacent to the Genealogy Library in the Main Room of the EC Library.

The EC Library Committee is proud to be able to add this offering to our services and we are always looking for ways to expand our Library and better serve the entire Sunnyside Community! -- Pat Harkins, Chair Eiland Center Library Committee
