Volunteers Needed to Help with JMU Research Project

You may have noticed recently that Sunnyside residents and JMU are actively looking for ways to increase their engagement and collaboration on a variety of activities. Well, here is your opportunity !!

Mikayla Basil, a senior Kinesiology/Exercise Science major who is going on to study Physical Therapy at Columbia University in the fall, is looking for adults 65 years or older to participate in a study on the relationship between strength and balance.

Are you eligible? Yes, if you are:

• 65 years or older • physically independent • have no diagnosed arthritis in knees or hands • have no current leg injuries

Participants need to attend one 30-minute session in order to complete leg strength testing, grip strength testing, and a Berg Balance test. The session is conducted at Godwin Hall, 261 Bluestone Drive (on the JMU campus).

If you are unsure if you meet the requirements, want more information, or would like to participate, please contact: Mikayla Basil 571.225.5252 basilmn@dukes.jmu.edu

Don Oxley has already participated in this project and can also answer some of your questions.

NOTE Mikayla would like to hear from you by February 14. --Linda Bradley
