VOTE ON NOVEMBER 7 !!
Did you know there is an election on Tuesday, November 7? This is not a presidential election year, so many voters are not focusing on the need to get to the polls. However, this election will decide important state-wide and country-wide offices, and as Tip O’Neill (or someone close to him) once said: “All politics are local.”The polling place for Sunnyside residents is Massanutten Presbyterian Church at 50 Indian Trail Road in Penn Laird. If you are registered, you can vote any time between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm. Be sure you bring photo identification of some sort with you to the polls. Sunnyside will provide shuttle transportation to the polls, leaving at 9:30 and again at 1:30 on election day. You MUST call transportation at 8213 as soon as possible to schedule a seat on the bus and to identify your pick-up location.
Voter turn-out in Virginia was 72% in 2016. This is high when compared to other states. However, turn-out often sinks below 30% when national offices are not on the ballot. We hope that Sunnyside residents will push this percentage up for our fall elections.
Offices to be chosen on November 7 include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Delegate to the House of Delegates, Member of the Board of Supervisors, and Member of the School Board.
