Operating System Recommendations

Operating systems are the software ‘core’ of a digital device. They manage the processing of whatever programs or applications the device has. It is important to, from time to time, update these systems. You should know what operating systems your devices have.

These are commonly used operating systems:

• For mobile devices (smartphones, tablets): Android (for most smartphones and tablets) iOS for Apple’s iPhones and iPads
• For computers (desktops and laptops):
  • Windows (for personal computer, AKA PCs) The Geek Squad recommends upgrading from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10.
  • OSX for Apple computers (iMacs, MacBooks, Powerbooks) The Geek squad recommends updating to the current version to enhance security. At this writing, the current OS is Catalina v 10.15.
