Highlands Association

Purpose

The Highlands Association is a resident-led fellowship. Each permanent resident of the Highlands is automatically a member of the Highlands Association (herein afterwards called the Association).

Organization

An Association Executive Committee oversees the Association activities and is governed by the Association By-laws. The Executive Committee consists of four elected officers and eight volunteer floor representatives and the Sunnyside Residential Living Director.
The Executive Committee will:
  • Identify problems of concerns of residents
  • Foster community among the residents
  • Offer recommendations for improvement in residents’ living
  • Encourage residents to participate in the activities of the Sunnyside community
  • Assure close coordination with Residential Living Director and Sunnyside Resident Council
SUMMARY OF THE HIGHLANDS ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The quarterly meeting of the Highland Association Executive Committee was held on July 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room. Ten representatives of the Highlands were present. Copies of the Bylaws of the Highlands Association and Bylaws of the Sunnyside Resident Council were handed out. The following concerns of Highlands’ residents were discussed:
  • Change the Executive Committee meeting time from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Reconsider the terms of office of Highlands Executive Committee.
  • Add an at-large representative to the next Sunnyside Resident Council meeting.
Reports from other committees were given. Carolyn Arbuckle reported on the annual gathering of the three CCRC facilities in this community. Sue Johnson reported on the Green Committee, and Frank Lambert reported on the Food Committee. The next meeting of the Highlands Association Executive Committee will be October 5, 2017 at 3:00pm in the Arts and Crafts Room. Shirley McCue, reporter.

Meetings

The Association meetings are held twice a year, the third week in April and the third week in October. The Highlands Association held its fall meeting on October 19, 2017 in the Allegheny/Blue Ridge Rooms. New residents since the spring meeting were introduced: Anne & Bob Long, Stan Gray, Mary & Ben Coker, and Gerry & John Earman. Speakers were Bill Stoner for the Employee Christmas Fund; Will Lowrance, Chaplain; and Josh Lyons, Executive Director. Also present were Robin Golliday, Residential Living Director; Sue Kahle, Chair; Frank Lambert, Vice-Chair; Sue Johnson, Secretary; Carolyn Arbuckle, Treasurer; and 43 other Highlands residents. Refreshments were served following the meeting, providing a time to welcome the new residents and visit with our Highlands “family.”
