Be Social Virtually with Zoom

Miss having chats with your neighbors?  Want to spend some time with someone in Assisted Living or the Highlands? There is a new online tool that will let you have some virtual quality time with others at Sunnyside or anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Zoom is a free video conferencing software. You can connect to one, two, or up to 100 other computers, tablets or smart phones and have a face-to-face conversation.  It is like Skype, Facebook Messenger, and Facetime, but works better for groups than most of those other software packages.

To start, take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsy2Ph6kSf8  This short video will tell you how to sign up for a free account and download the software for your computer.  There is a link for downloading the software below the video.

Once you have Zoom, you can watch this video on the Zoom meeting controls - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygZ96J_z4AY This shows also shows how to host a meeting ; I would recommend you watch from the start to 4:19, after that much of the video is for business meetings.

You can send invites to others to join a meeting and this video shows how to join a meeting you were invited to.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=hIkCmbvAHQQ&feature=emb_logo

These videos are just a start and if you would like to try out Zoom but don't want to host a meeting, please send an email to Colleen Landis at colleen.cahill@gmail.com and she will set up some times for groups to test out this video conferencing software. She has done this with a set of residents and they found it fairly easy and enjoyed it greatly!
